Il a publiquement désigné, avant la course, son favori au Kentucky Derby. Risque important, ce dernier se voyait coté à 12-1. Et son choix s’est avéré, son favori a gagné. Interrogé sur les raisons de son choix, Steve Kornacki a simplement répondu :
« Même en panne une horloge donne l’heure exacte deux fois par jour ».
