Philadelphie rappelle à qui veut l’entendre qu’elle est et restera la première capitale des USA. A ce titre, les Pères Fondateurs y occupent une place particulière. Si tous n’ont pas mes faveurs, leur position en ce qui concerne l’esclavage justifie mes préférences, l’un d’entre eux restera à tout jamais celui que je révère.

Philadelphia reminds anyone who wants to hear that it is and will remain the first capital of the USA. As such, the Founding Fathers occupy, in this city, a special place. If not all have my favors, their position regarding slavery justifies my preferences, one of them will forever remain the one I revere.

Au centre de la ville est marqué le « City Hall » qui est érigé au milieu d’une place. Deux sculptures décorent celle-ci. La plus célèbre est une ode à l’industrie de cette ville :
la Pince à Linge.

In the center of the city is marked the « City Hall » which is erected in the middle of a square. Two sculptures decorate it. The most famous is an ode to the city’s industry:
the Clothespin.

La seconde présente deux Pères Fondateurs, l’un des deux est mon idole, j’ai l’immense privilège le lui serrer la main.

The second presents two Founding Fathers, one of them is my idol, I have the immense privilege to shake his hand.

Et le Grand Homme est enterré dans une modeste tombe aux côtés de son épouse.

And the Great Man is buried in a modest tomb beside his wife.

Bon, retournons vers la modernité.

Let us return to the XXI century.

L’année dernière, l’équipe de Base Ball les Phillies, participaient aux World Series. Cette année, ils auront échoué de peu.

Last year, Philadelphia Base Ball team, the Phillies, competed in the 2022 World Series. This year, they have narrowly failed.

Enfin, pour montrer que le monde change vraiment, cet immeuble qui fut le siège d’une banque est désormais celui d’une société qui prospère avec Linux, un logiciel Open Source, gratuit et fiable.

Enfin une bonne nouvelle qui prouve que le mode ouvert de l’Open Source peut être plus efficace que le mode propriétaire.

Finally, to show that the world is really changing, this building that was the headquarters of a bank is now that of a company that thrives with Linux, an open source software, free and reliable.

Finally good news that proves that open source can be more efficient than proprietary mode.

Enfin, cerise sur le gâteau, 25$ pour parquer l’auto. Pas vraiment étonnant que le parking soit vide. La bonne nouvelle est que, ne connaissant pas les usages ici, le n’ai pas ramassé une dispendieuse prune.

Finally, the icing on the cake, $25 to park the car. No wonder the parking lot is empty. The good news is that, not knowing how to legally park in the streets here, did not pick up an expensive parking ticket.

Au début du XX siècle, un chimiste aura fait fortune et l’aura consacrée à amasser la plus belle collection privée de peintres impressionnistes, Renoir en particulier.

Si dans un premier temps la collection était offerte au public dans la villa du Docteur Barnes, le succès aura forcé la Fondation Barnes à déménager dans un lieu plus propice en prenant en compte une contrainte imposée :
ne pas modifier l’organisation de la présentation qu’il avait lui-même choisie. Donc à l’intérieur du nouveau musée, la disposition des pièces de la villa est scrupuleusement respectée.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a chemist made his fortune and dedicated him to collecting the finest private collection of impressionist painters, Renoir in particular.

If the collection was initially offered to the public in Dr Barnes’ villa, success would have forced the Barnes Foundation to move to a more favorable location, taking into account a constraint imposed:
