Avant l’arrivée de l’Internet, la France disposait d’un outil de communication efficace, les PTT. Le clip extrait du film « Le Cave se rebiffe » nous en fait une élogieuse promotion.
Before the arrival of the Internet, France had an effective communication tool, the PTT, Telegraph Post and Telephone. The clip extracted from the film « Le Cave se rebiffe » offers us a praiseworthy promotion.
Afin de me plaindre des mauvais services de la société que j’avais chargé du transport de mon auto des US vers la France, j’avais écrit un courrier destiné au PGD de Schumacher Logistics. Ce courrier, je l’ai confié aux PTT désormais renommés La Poste en mode suivi.
Le courrier n’est jamais arrivé, je m’en suis plaint, au bout de 3 mois j’ai reçu le courrier suivant :
In order to complain about the poor services of the company I had charged with transporting my car from the US to France, I had written a letter to the PGD of Schumacher Logistics. This mail, I entrusted it to the PTTs now renamed La Poste in tracking mode.
The mail never arrived, I complained, after 3 months I received the following mail:
La Poste me rembourse le montant de l’envoi. Vrai, la livraison du courrier reposait aussi sur la bonne exécution côté US. Encore eut-il fallu que la lettre traversât l’Atlantique. Le suivi du courrier montre que celui-ci n’a jamais quitté le bureau de poste de Bourg la Reine.
Deux remarques.
– Je ne sais pas combien aura coûté le traitement de l’erreur, mais je suis certain que les 4,71€ ne représentent qu’une infime partie du coût total.
– Au moins sur un courriel confié à l’Internet, il est toujours possible de demander au destinataire de confirmer bonne réception.
Longue vie à la dématérialisation.
The Post Office refunds me the amount of the mailing. True, the delivery of the mail was also based on the good execution on the US side. Still, the letter had to cross the Atlantic. The tracking of the mail shows that it never left the post office in Bourg la Reine.
Two remarks.
– I don’t know how much it will have cost to deal with the error, but I am sure that the €4.71 represents only a small part, a fraction, of the total cost.
– At least on an email sent to the Internet, it is always possible to ask the recipient to confirm receipt.
