Il y a une dizaine de jours, une femme condamnée à mort il y a plus de trente ans voyait sa sentence enfin exécutée.
L’injection de deux doses de pentobarbital ne l’a pas tuée.
La médecine hospitalière aura fait son boulot, elle est remise sur pied. Elle peut donc retourner dans le couloir de la mort.
J’espère que ce passage à l’hôpital est prévu dans son contrat d’assurance santé, sinon elle sera obligée de se déclarer en faillite pour non-paiement de facture médicale.
Une avancée éthique majeure.
About ten days ago, a woman sentenced to death more than thirty years ago, finally, was executed.
The injection of two doses of pentobarbital did not kill her.
Doctors in the I.C.U. will have done their job; she is back on her feet. So she can go back to death row.
I hope that this hospital stay is included in her health insurance contract, otherwise she will be forced to declare bankruptcy for non-payment of a medical bill.

Quelques remarques.
Pour entrer dans l’Union Européenne, une des conditions est l’absence de la peine de mort dans le code pénal du pays candidat. Cette interdiction est formalisée dans la Charte des Droits Fondamentaux. C’est pourquoi le Canada s’est vu proposer un rapprochement avec l’U.E., rapprochement impossible avec les US.

En ce qui concerne la peine de mort, les USA se trouvent en bonne compagnie avec la Chine, l’Iran, la Corée du Mort, l’Arabie saoudite et nombre de dictatures infréquentables. Comble du voyeurisme, le ministre des Armées se propose de diffuser l’exécution d’un ancien militaire, criminel qui a assassiné une quinzaine de soldats.

Comble de bigoterie puritaine, la télévision censure la nudité et certaines expressions telles que « Merde » ou « Fuck ».
